Is it permissible to give Zakat on money to help a poor girl with her marriage expenses, knowing that the poor may be excessive in their marriage requirements?

1. A woman is not obligated to prepare or furnish the home; rather, it is the husband's duty as part of his financial support (nafaqah). The mahr (dowry) is the wife's property, and she uses it to prepare herself.

2. If the girl has someone who provides for her, then he is responsible for preparing her (for marriage). Otherwise, the husband is obligated to do so, and it is covered by her mahr.

3. If the custom is for the woman to participate in furnishing the home, and her guardian is unable to prepare her and she has no money, then it is permissible to give her zakat due to her need for marriage.
