Does the bleeding that occurs five or six hours after intercourse invalidate prayer?
The blood that comes down due to intercourse is corrupted blood and does not prevent prayer or fasting. Rather, one must purify oneself, take precautions, and perform the prayer on time, because the blood that prevents (worship) is the blood of menstruation and post-natal bleeding. Al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud narrated from Hamnah bint Jahsh the hadith of istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding), where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said it is "a stir from the stirs of Satan," and he commanded her to consider herself menstruating for six or seven days, then to perform ghusl (ritual bath) and pray and fast, or to combine prayers with a ghusl for each combination.
