For what was Tha'lab famous, and what are his most renowned works?
Tha'lab: He is the erudite Imam, the scholar, Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Shaybani al-Baghdadi. He was an Imam in grammar and the author of the book "Al-Faseeh" and other works. He was born in the year 200 AH and began studying knowledge at the age of 18. By the age of 25, there was no issue left from Al-Farra' that he had not mastered. He heard Hadith from Al-Qawariri and others, and Nafṭawayh and Ibn al-Anbari, among others, narrated from him. Al-Khatib described him as trustworthy, a proof, a righteous and pious man, famous for his memorization. Al-Mubarrad said that he was the most knowledgeable of the Kufans. He passed away in the year 291 AH after being struck by an animal.
