What is the ruling on a brother and sister spreading rumors that their brother's wife practices sorcery without proof, and what is the advice for someone who hears such things about his wife and believes them?

The divine laws have not differed in prohibiting the slandering of reputations and false accusations. Accusing a person of practicing magic is a false accusation against their honor and religion, and it is not permissible except with legitimate proof: either by the sorcerer's confession against themselves, or by the testimony of trustworthy individuals. Without that, the accusation is a reprehensible statement, and its perpetrator deserves sin and punishment, as Allah Almighty says: (O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, AVOID MUCH [NEGATIVE] ASSUMPTION. INDEED, SOME ASSUMPTION IS SINFUL. AND DO NOT SPY) and His saying: (AND THOSE WHO HARM BELIEVING MEN AND BELIEVING WOMEN FOR [SOMETHING] OTHER THAN WHAT THEY HAVE EARNED HAVE CERTAINLY BORNE A SLANDER AND A CLEAR SIN).

Sheikh Al-Barrak stated that a sorcerer cannot be discovered except by their confession or by clear evidence against them, and it is not permissible to rely on suspicions, weak circumstantial evidence, or the reports of wicked jinn. Therefore, everyone who accuses a woman of practicing magic must fear Allah. As long as there is no confession or witnesses, the matter remains within the realm of reprehensible suspicion, and this false accusation may rebound upon its author.
