What is the ruling on saying "Here I am, O Muhammad" (Labbayka ya Muhammad), (Labbayka ya Rasulullah)?

It is permissible to say "Labbayka Ya Rasool Allah (Here I am, O Messenger of Allah)" during the lifetime of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as has been authentically reported from the Companions, and its meaning is "I am steadfast in obeying you." However, after his death, it is not correct to say it, because calling out and addressing is for the living who can hear. And although this statement may express love for the Prophet and obedience to him, it carries a false implication that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, hears after his death, which could lead to supplicating to him and seeking his aid, and this is a form of polytheism (shirk (definition)). Therefore, it must be avoided, and one should suffice with saying "Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk (Here I am, O Allah, here I am)."
