For how long did Abu Talib sponsor the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace?

Biographers differed regarding the duration of Abu Talib's guardianship of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is generally understood that guardianship ends upon reaching puberty. However, Abu Talib's protection of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, continued even after he reached puberty and received revelation, as he protected and supported him. Abu Talib died when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was approximately fifty years old. Therefore, it can be said that the period of time the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, spent under his uncle's guardianship and protection ranged between approximately forty and forty-four years.
