What is the advice for someone whom people praise highly, while he sees himself as falling short and has previously committed major sins from which he has repented?

We ask Allah to grant you sincere repentance, and we advise you to truly repent and turn to Allah Almighty so that He may strengthen you and help you avoid sins. There is no blame upon you if people praise you, for that is from Allah’s concealment of your faults. However, do not be deluded by it, for delusion severs the heart’s journey to Allah. Ibn Al-Qayyim says: "Stopping at people’s praise and blame is a sign of the heart’s قطع (severance) and its emptiness of Allah."
