Ibn Hisham, the author of the Sirah (Prophetic Biography), is Abd al-Malik ibn Hisham ibn Ayyub. His kunyah (agnomen) is Abu Muhammad al-Dhuhli al-Sadusi, and it is also said al-Himayri al-Ma'afiri. He grew up in Basra then migrated to Egypt. Al-Dhahabi described him as: "The erudite scholar, grammarian, and historian of narratives." He authored works on the Sirah, history, and the poetry of the Arabs. He passed away in Egypt on the thirteenth of Rabi' al-Akhir in the year 218 AH.
