What is the ruling on hiding behind religion to attain prestigious positions?

Whoever intends worldly gain with his deeds will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah Almighty says: "Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter - We increase for him in his harvest. And whoever desires the harvest of this world - We give him thereof, and there is not for him in the Hereafter any share." And whoever sells his religion for a worldly gain combines his heedlessness of the Hereafter with adorning himself with what he does not possess, and this is a lie and falsehood. Moreover, it obstructs the path of Allah and resembles the wicked among the People of the Book.

It is not permissible to describe a Muslim as hiding behind religion to attain a position except with clear proof, for that is a forbidden evil suspicion. Caution must be exercised so that this description does not become a means to tarnish the image of those engaged in public affairs who carry the Islamic project.
