The answer

Whoever intentionally misses one or more prayers without an excuse must offer sincere repentance. There is no make-up (qada') or expiation (kaffara) for them, because intentionally abandoning prayer is a major disbelief (kufr akbar), based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The covenant between us and them is prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved," and his saying: "Between a person and (polytheism) and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer." As for whoever misses it due to an excuse, such as sleep or forgetfulness, they must pray it whenever they remember it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it. There is no expiation for it except that."
