What is the religious ruling on holding celebrations for the birth of Sayyidi Ahmad al-Badawi and Sayyidi Ibrahim al-Dasuqi, and how can one best emulate them to follow the path of the righteous?

Celebrations of mawlids (birthdays of saints) are reprehensible innovations that are neither permissible to hold nor to participate in. Emulating the righteous is achieved by studying their biographies to benefit from their knowledge, piety, asceticism, and their conformity to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him. The people most worthy of emulation after the Prophet, peace be upon him, are his Companions, especially the Rightly Guided Caliphs, due to his saying, peace be upon him: "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them," and "Adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs." One must assess a person's state by the Qur'an and Sunnah; whoever's state conforms to the Qur'an and Sunnah is righteous, and whoever's state does not conform is not righteous, even if manifestations or extraordinary phenomena appear from them.
