What is meant by the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Nothing is to be asked for by the Face of Allah except Paradise"?

The scholars differed on the meaning of "the Face of Allah" in the context of the question, holding two views: The first is that it is not permissible to ask created beings by the Face of Allah, because only Paradise is asked for by it, and they are unable to grant it. The second is that when asking Allah, one asks by His Noble Face for matters of the Hereafter, such as Paradise and salvation from Hellfire, not for worldly matters.
