What is the Sharia ruling on dealing with a father who practices oppression and cruelty against his wife and children, deprives them of their rights, interferes in their personal lives, psychologically humiliates them, and forces them to hand over their salaries to him, pushing them to despair and contemplate suicide or escape?

A father's bad manners and shortcomings in his duties do not negate his right over his children. Therefore, it is obligatory to show him piety and kindness, even if he is a disbeliever, and it is forbidden to disobey him. Although a father's cursing of his wife and children and harming them with his tongue and actions is impermissible, and the wife has the right to seek divorce due to harm, this does not negate his right to piety and kindness. If the father is poor, his children are obligated to spend on him; and if he is rich, it is commendable to be kind to him. It is obligatory to advise the father and prevent him from injustice with gentleness and politeness. If the children are unable to advise him, they should seek help from students of knowledge or preachers.
