What is the ruling on kissing the hand of a shaykh with the intention of showing respect, appreciation, and humility?

Kissing a man’s hand for his asceticism, or righteousness, or knowledge, or honor, or chastity, is a matter about which the scholars have differed. Some of them recommended it, while others prohibited it. However, if it is for his wealth, or status, or power, then that is not permissible.
