ما هي الأشياء التي خلقت من ماء؛ هل كل المخلوقات أم ما يدب في الأرض من إنس وحيوان؟
The exegetes differed regarding whether water is the origin of all creatures or only of all animals on Earth. Among their views are:
1. Tafsir Al-Baghawi: "And He created every moving creature from water" (24:45), meaning from a sperm-drop. This refers to every animal observed in this world and does not include angels and jinn. It was also said: The origin of all creation is from water, where Allah created water, then made from it wind (for angels), and fire (for jinn), and clay (for Adam). Then He mentioned the types of locomotion (crawling on the belly, walking on two legs, walking on four).
2. Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: The majority opinion is that the creation of every animal involves water, like the creation of Adam from water and clay. This is supported by the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "We are from water." Others said: Jinn and angels are not excluded, for every living creature was created from water, because the first thing Allah created was water, and then He created everything else from it.
