From what were animals and plants created?

Allah created animals and plants from water, as is clear from His, the Almighty's, saying: "And We made from water every living thing" [Al-Anbiya:30]. And His saying: "And Allah has created every [living] creature from water" [An-Nur:45]. Living beings were created from water; plants do not grow except with it, and animals are created from a sperm drop, which is water. Some scholars have gone to the extent of saying that every animal was first created in the sea, and then some of them moved to land.
