Is it permissible to suffice with feeding sixty needy persons as expiation for someone who committed sodomy during the daytime in Ramadan, due to inability to free a slave, and fear of his matter being exposed if he fasts two consecutive months?

One must repent to Allah Almighty for intentionally breaking the fast of Ramadan and for committing an abomination (sodomy), both of which are major sins. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw in his dream the punishment of those who break their fast before its appointed time.

Whoever commits sodomy during the daytime in Ramadan incurs the severe expiation, which is fasting for two consecutive months, according to the majority of scholars, just as it is required for one who has intercourse with his wife in Ramadan.

The expiation must be performed immediately, but if one fears exposure, it can be delayed until a way to do so becomes feasible, or one can vow to fast for two consecutive months to justify the fasting to his family if they notice it.
