Is it permissible to purchase cars confiscated by the state that were used in smuggling prohibited materials, and which are subsequently sold at public auction, with the owner of the vehicle having prior knowledge of the confiscation?

A Muslim is not permitted to expose his wealth to danger. Therefore, it is not permissible to defy the state if it prohibits the entry of goods, because doing so exposes wealth to destruction and oneself to humiliation. It is more prudent to avoid purchasing confiscated goods, because it is either akin to buying usurped property if the state does not have the right to confiscate, or falling into the شبهة (doubt) of a disputed matter if the state does have the right to confiscate. Many scholars have forbidden financial penalties.
