The wife's maintenance, clothing, and housing are among her most confirmed rights, and the husband is obligated to provide them, even if the wife is wealthy and the husband is poor. However, if the wife waives her right, it is dropped, and the husband is not sinful. The wife has the right to demand her past rights if she has not waived them. A husband who is unable to provide maintenance has the right to give his wife the choice between accepting no future maintenance or divorce. As for past rights, they are a debt upon him. A woman may retract her waiver of a right and demand it in the future.
