The question

Is the restricted takbir on Eid al-Adha permissible after the prayer, given that there are statements from scholars such as Al-Albani, Ibn Baz, and Ibn Uthaymeen indicating that it has not been proven from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and that it is contrary to the practice of the Salaf?

The answer

The restricted takbir (recitation of 'Allahu Akbar') after prayers on Eid al-Adha is legislated. Its time extends from the dawn of the Day of Arafah until the 'Asr (afternoon) prayer of the last day of Tashreeq. The permissibility of this is indicated by the actions of the Companions, such as Ali and Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: "It is from the morning of the Day of Arafah until the last days of Mina." As for the pilgrim, he continues to recite the talbiyah (Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk) until he stones the Jamarat al-Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice, and then he performs the takbir.
