Is the condition that the wife is going through—who asked for divorce after falling in love with a man she met once and who is now imprisoned, and who accuses her husband of mistreatment and failure due to his job loss—a midlife crisis or a touch from Satan?

A woman is not permitted to seek a divorce unless there is a legitimate Shar'i reason, such as the husband's injustice, his deviance (fisq), his inability to fulfill her rights, or her aversion to him due to a defect in him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned women who seek divorce without a cause that they would be deprived of the scent of Paradise.

If your wife is seeking a divorce to marry another man, this is a reprehensible act (munkar). If her request is due to your not buying a house, she has no right to demand this, as it is not a condition for the marital home to be owned by the husband; it is sufficient for him to possess its usufruct.

You should remind your wife of Allah and the consequences of her actions. This crisis might be due to living in infidel countries and being influenced by their morals. Be keen on adhering to your religion and teaching your wife the rulings of the Sharia (definition). If the wife does not rectify her behavior, she is disobedient (nashiz), and you can deal with her according to what the Sharia has outlined.

If she insists on divorce, you are not obligated to grant it, but you may divorce her in exchange for her forfeiting some or all of her rights.
