What is the ruling of Islamic law on walking with a woman who is immodestly dressed, whether the questioner is a veiled woman, or one of her mahrams such as her brother or son?

It is permissible for a woman to walk with a woman who is immodestly dressed (mutabarrijah), and similarly for a mahram, provided that no forbidden sights are seen. Whoever walks with an immodestly dressed woman must denounce her immodesty, as it is among the forbidden acts whose punishments are severe in Islam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) described immodestly dressed women as being among the people of Hellfire and cursed.

If the immodestly dressed woman does not abandon her immodesty after being advised and commanded to do good, then one should consider distancing oneself from her and shunning her if there is fear of being influenced by her, because a person is affected by those they associate with. A Muslim must be cautious of associating with immodestly dressed women and sinners for fear of negative impact on their religion and commitment, while also being keen to invite them with patience, wisdom, good admonition, and praying for their guidance.

If there is no fear of being influenced by associating with sinners, then the benefit of shunning them should be considered. If shunning leads to their repentance, it is prescribed. However, if it makes them worse, then continuing the relationship with advice and prayer is more appropriate. It is not permissible for a child to shun their mother, no matter how grave her mistakes, rather they must accompany her with kindness, even if she is a polytheist, while continuing to advise her and warn her of God's punishment.
