Is it permissible for us to perform the marriage contract (aqd al-qiran) while I remain in my family's home until the husband finds a job, given the family's opposition to this?

You must sever ties with this foreign man, as such relationships are unlawful and are a gateway to temptation and corruption. The prescribed method for one who desires marriage is to propose to the woman through her guardian. If the man is serious about marriage, let him approach your guardian. His lack of earnings should not deter him, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married off a man who could only offer an iron ring. Sustenance is from Allah, and marriage provides greater protection for a man.
