Is it permissible for a woman to remove her hijab for the sake of study, work, and pleasing her husband, or to wear a wig as a substitute for it?

The hijab is an obligatory duty for the Muslim woman. It is not permissible for the husband to order his wife to remove it, nor is it permissible for her to obey him in that, because of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Obedience is only in what is good and right," and "There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Exalted." Removing the hijab for the sake of fleeting worldly pleasures is a form of selling one's religion. Emigrating to lands of disbelief is not permissible if it results in neglecting one's religion. A wig does not substitute for the hijab except in cases of necessity. The wife must try to convince her husband and seek help from Allah, scholars, or virtuous relatives.
