Is a woman considered to be in her postpartum (nifas) period if she miscarried one of her twins in the fifth month of pregnancy while the other remained in her womb?

If a woman miscarried a fetus that had fully formed in the fifth month, and it was one of twins, and she saw blood after the miscarriage, then this blood has three possible rulings regarding nifas (definition) (postpartum bleeding):

1. The first opinion (the soundest according to the Shafi'is): Nifas is counted from the second child. Therefore, the blood after the miscarriage is not nifas but rather irregular bleeding (dam fasad). 2. The second opinion (the view of Abu Hanifa, Malik, and the relied-upon view among the Hanbalis): Nifas is counted from the first child. Therefore, the blood after the miscarriage is nifas with its associated rulings, and its duration is calculated as part of the total nifas period, which generally does not exceed forty days. 3. The third opinion (a narration from Ahmad, a view within the Shafi'i madhhab (definition), and preferred by Ibn 'Uthaymeen): Both types of bleeding (after the first and after the second) are considered independent nifas, because each is blood that exited immediately following a birth. This opinion appears to be the most preferred due to the strength of its reasoning. Accordingly, the blood the woman saw after the miscarriage is nifas.
