Abortion for reasons other than those sanctioned by Islamic law is forbidden. However, if a trustworthy, specialized doctor confirms that the continued presence of the fetus poses a real danger to the mother's life, then she is permitted to abort in order to preserve her life. It is advisable to use contraceptives after each birth until the mother regains her health, and there is no religious prohibition in that.
