Is a grandfather considered a martyr if he died from diabetes that affected his organs and led to the amputation of his limbs, knowing that he died smiling, raising his forefinger for the Shahadah, and what is the meaning of "the dead person's gaze follows"?

It is recommended to close the eyes of the deceased, and there is no sin upon one who is unable to do so. The meaning of "the gaze followed it" (تبعه البصر) mentioned in the Hadith, may be that the gaze follows the soul as it exits the body, or that the soul maintains a connection with the body after exiting and thus perceives its surroundings.
