Is it permissible for a veiled woman, who wears long and loose clothing, to alter the style of her attire—while adhering to the hijab—to avoid people's gossip and to prevent harassment, especially if this affects her husband's treatment of her?

The hijab (definition) is a divine obligation upon believing women; she who adheres to it will be rewarded, and she who abandons it will be sinful. It is a sign of righteousness and a reason for entering Paradise. A Muslim woman must remain steadfast in this obligation and not pay attention to the whisperings of Satan. As for marriage, do not preoccupy yourself with expected annoyances; rather, ask Allah for a righteous husband, and be keen not to leave your home except when necessary, for a woman's remaining in her home is better for her religion.
