What is the ruling on a woman uncovering her face and using cupping outside her home?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is forbidden for a woman to uncover her face in the presence of non-mahram men if there is a fear of temptation. If there is no such fear, scholars differ on the obligation of covering it. As for a woman uncovering her face to a cupper or a doctor, it is permissible due to necessity or dire need, provided there is no alternative female or mahram, and with the obligation to avoid being alone with the non-mahram man. This uncovering is not included in the warning mentioned in the hadith: "Any woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband’s house has torn her veil between her and Allah Almighty"; because the intent of the hadith is about a woman who uncovers herself to non-mahram men with the intention of committing indecency.
