Should the religious affiliation of children follow the Christian father or the Muslim mother after her conversion to Islam?

The child follows the better of the two parents in religion. These children are considered Muslim, following their Muslim mother. Since the mother has embraced Islam while her husband remains in disbelief, her marriage to him is suspended, and she must separate from him. If he embraces Islam while she is in her iddah (definition) (waiting period), she returns to him with the original marriage contract.
