What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding the dispute that occurred between a mosque imam and another person due to the imam mocking the latter's beard, and what is the way to reconcile between them?

"Letting the beard grow is obligatory and shaving it is forbidden, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Be different from the polytheists; trim your mustaches and let your beards grow." Mocking the beard is mocking a ritualistic symbol of Islam, and there is fear for the one who does so of being expelled from Islam. It is obligatory upon a Muslim to restrain their tongue from disparaging any matter of the religion. The one who mocked the beard should seek Allah's forgiveness. Refusing to pray behind an Imam who mocks the beard is the correct action if he does not repent."
