Is it permissible to place jewelry in the navel, provided the abdomen is not exposed?

Women are permitted to adorn themselves with gold according to the customary practices of their society, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, these two are forbidden to the males of my Ummah, but permissible for its females" — referring to gold and silk. As for placing jewelry in the navel, it is permissible under certain conditions: that it is not a symbol of an infidel group, that no one but the husband sees it, that no harm results from it, and that it is customary for women to adorn themselves with gold in this manner. Ibn Qudamah clarified that what is permissible is that which is customary for women to wear.

Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about the ruling on piercing the ear or nose for adornment. He replied that piercing the ear is permissible because it is a means to permissible adornment, and it is established that the women of the Companions used to wear earrings in their ears. As for nose piercing, he did not mention any statements from scholars regarding it, and it involves disfigurement and mutilation unless the woman is in a country where nose adornment is considered a form of beauty and embellishment, in which case there is no objection to it.
