Is it permissible to perform Istinja' with juice or modern cleaning agents such as sanitizers, alcohol, or cologne? Or is it permissible with sin? And what is the ruling if the discharge exceeds the usual place?

According to the majority of scholars, istinja (definition)' (cleaning oneself after defecation or urination) with liquids other than water is not permissible, whether the impurity has spread beyond its place or not. Rather, water must be used thereafter to remove the impurity, because the liquid spreads the impurity. The Hanafis differed, permitting istinja' with pure liquids that remove impurities, with some of them disliking it. This is provided that the liquid is pure. However, if it is impure, such as alcohol, then istinja' with it is not valid.
