The Surah was named in the Sunnah as "Ha-Mim Al-Mu'min," and it became well-known by this name in the Masahif (copies of the Qur'an) of the East. The reason for this naming is the mention of the story of the believer from the family of Pharaoh within it. It is also called "Surat Al-Mu'min," and "Surat At-Tawl" due to the Almighty's saying, "Possessor of abundance (Dhī ṭ-ṭawl)," and "Surat Ghafir" because of the mention of Allah's description "Forgiver of sin (Ghafir adh-dhanb)" at its beginning. It became well-known by this name in the Masahif of the West.
