A girl is suffering from sadness, fear, obsessive thoughts of death, and religious obsessive-compulsive disorder, and she fears that she has left Islam. She finds it difficult to seek guidance; so, will reading the Qur’an intensively relieve her of these constraints? And is what she feels merely obsessive thoughts? And is she still on good terms? And is her fear of believing these thoughts sufficient for not believing them? And can she return to how she was before?

The treatment for obsessive thoughts (waswas) lies in sincerely seeking refuge with Allah, reciting "Audhu billah" (I seek refuge in Allah), making supplication (du'a), engaging in remembrance (dhikr), reciting the Quran, and completely turning away from going along with Satan in his schemes. Whenever obsessive thoughts cross your mind, seek refuge [with Allah], and occupy yourself with remembrance, supplication, Quran recitation, and seeking forgiveness. It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Satan has a touch with the son of Adam, and the angel has a touch. As for Satan's touch, it is a promise of evil and a denial of the truth. As for the angel's touch, it is a promise of good and an affirmation of the truth. Whoever finds the latter should know that it is from Allah, so let him praise Allah. And whoever finds the former, let him seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan." Then he recited: "Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality" [Al-Baqarah: 268]. Allah Almighty said: "And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing" [Al-A'raf: 200].

Ibn Hajar al-Haytami was asked about the ailment of waswas, whether it has a cure. He replied: "It has an effective cure, which is to completely ignore it, no matter how much doubt there is in one's mind. For if one does not pay attention to it, it will not persist, but will disappear after a short time, as those who were successful have experienced. As for whoever listens to it and acts upon its dictates, it will continue to increase with him until it drives him to the realm of the insane, and even worse than them."

It is also recommended to associate with righteous women to fill one's free time with what is beneficial.
