What is the ruling on the permissibility of the "list" (qāʾimah) in marriage conditions, and does it substitute for the mahr (dower), and what should be written in it?

The Mahr (dower) is obligatory in marriage, as Allah Almighty says: "And give the women (upon marriage) their dower as a free gift" (Quran 4:4), and as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Go and seek, even if it be a ring of iron." The forms of Mahr vary according to customs; it may be cash, gold, or a mixture of gold, deferred cash, and a furniture list. The list is considered part of the Mahr and is owned by the wife, and its determination is done by agreement between the husband and the guardian. It is recommended to facilitate the Mahr, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The best dower is the easiest," and "The best marriage is the easiest."
