What is a comprehensive explanation of the noble Hadith: "I advise you to fear Allah, and to listen and obey, even if a slave is appointed over you. For indeed, whoever lives among you will see great discord. So, adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs; cling to it with your molars. And beware of newly invented matters, for every innovation is misguidance"?

This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah. Al-Tirmidhi and others authenticated it, and it is a hadith of great standing.

And it came in the explanation of the hadith: VOCABULARY: "وعظنا" (advised us): counseled us. "وجلت" (feared): became fearful. "ذرفت" (shed tears): flowed with tears. "كأنها موعظة مودع" (as if it were a farewell sermon): They understood this from his (peace be upon him) exaggeration in instilling fear and warning, so they thought that this was due to the proximity of his departure from them. "أوصنا" (advise us): A comprehensive and sufficient advice. "بتقوى الله" (by fearing Allah): obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. "والسمع والطاعة" (and listening and obeying): to the rulers. "فسيرى اختلافًا" (he will see differences): in sayings, actions, and beliefs. "فعليكم بسنتي" (So hold fast to my Sunnah): Adhere to it steadfastly, and it is his (peace be upon him) way. "الراشدين" (the rightly guided): those who knew the truth and followed it. "عضوا" (bite): with an open 'ayn'. "بالنواجذ" (with the molars): the back teeth. "بدعة" (innovation): what is newly introduced contrary to the command of the Lawgiver.

Benefits derived from it: 1. Exaggerating in admonition to soften hearts. 2. Reliance on contextual clues. 3. It is appropriate to ask the admonisher for more admonition and advice. 4. A sign of prophethood for informing about future differences. 5. The command to fear Allah and to listen and obey, for in them lies the happiness of this world and the hereafter. 6. Adherence to the Sunnah and patience in doing so. 7. The saying of the rightly guided Caliph is more authoritative when there is disagreement. 8. Warning against innovations and whatever has no basis in the Sacred Law.
