How sound is the Hadith: "O Allah, I do not ask You to avert the decree, but I ask You for gentleness therein"?

This is not an authentic Hadith from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as it has no basis in the books of Sunnah. It contradicts what has been authentically reported from him, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When one of you supplicates, let him be firm in his request and not say: 'O Allah, if You wish, grant me,' for Allah cannot be compelled." It is also established that supplication is among the things that can avert divine decree.
