Was the name "Muhammad" used before Islam and before the Prophet (peace be upon him) was named by it, and how many were named by it before Islam?

The name "Muhammad" did not exist among the Arabs before the advent of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and no one was named by it before his time. Allah protected this name from being used by anyone before him. When it became widespread near his time that a prophet named Muhammad would be sent, a few Arabs named their sons with this name, hoping that one of them might be the promised Prophet. These seven individuals are: Muhammad ibn Uhaihah al-Awsi, Muhammad ibn Maslamah al-Ansari, Muhammad ibn Bar’a al-Bakri, Muhammad ibn Sufyan, Muhammad ibn Humran al-Ju’fi, Muhammad ibn Khuzai al-Sulami, and Muhammad ibn al-Yahmad. Thereafter, Allah protected everyone who bore this name from claiming prophethood.
