Did Allah Almighty choose and ordain that the Prophet's name, peace and blessings be upon him, be Muhammad? And did Allah name His Prophet with the names "Ahmad", "Al-Mahi", "Al-Hashir", "Al-Aqib", or was it the Prophet who named himself with them? And was the Prophet known by the name "Ahmad" before his prophethood?

The Muslim believes that everything that happens in the universe is by Allah's decree and destiny. This includes the naming of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with his noble names, because his naming was by divine revelation. Many of his names were mentioned in the Holy Quran, which is the word of Allah. The Companions and scholars understood this. It was narrated from Abu Talib and Hassan ibn Thabit that they said: "And He split for him from His name to magnify him So, the Lord of the Throne is Mahmud, and this is Muhammad." Al-Qurtubi said: "His names were only received through revelation, and he is not named except with what Allah named him." Ibn al-Arabi said: "Indeed, Allah outlined the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with His outlines, and enumerated his names for him." And Allah favored our Prophet Muhammad by the presence of his names in His Mighty Book.

Ibn Hajar said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was Ahmad before he was Muhammad... He praised his Lord before people praised him, and likewise in the Hereafter he will praise his Lord, so He will grant him intercession, and people will praise him."
