What is the ruling on using the internet, what are its advantages and disadvantages, and what are the legitimate Sharia controls for its use?

The internet is a tool that can be used for good or for evil, and its user controls it. Therefore, a Muslim must fear Allah and use it for what is beneficial and does not contravene the Sharia, and keep away from forbidden things. Abstaining from using it altogether on the pretext that it contains both good and bad is not from jurisprudence if it can be controlled. It has been proven that it has religious and worldly benefits, so one should benefit from it in ways that do not conflict with the Sharia. However, if one is unable to distinguish between that or cannot protect others from it, then refraining from it and seeking safety is better.
