Is the intention (niyyah) required for the final salutation (taslim) in prayer to exit from it, and is the prayer valid without this intention?

A worshipper is not required to intend, by his salutation (taslim (definition)), to exit the prayer. This is the opinion of the majority of jurists from the Hanafis, Shafi'is, and Hanbalis. The initial intention for prayer encompasses all of its parts, and the salutation is one of them. Some jurists consider it recommended to intend exiting with the salutation, while others consider it obligatory. As for the intention to return the salutation to the angels or the worshippers, it is recommended.
