Who is more entitled to sit in the front seat of a car and has priority: the maternal uncle or the older nephew, and what is the evidence for this from the Sunnah?

The general principle is to prioritize the elder, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying, "Let the elder speak first," and "He is not of us who does not show mercy to our young and respect our elders."

Some scholars are of the opinion that maternal and paternal uncles should be given precedence over nephews and nieces, even if they are younger, because they are in the position of a parent. They cite what was narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The maternal uncle is a father," and "The maternal aunt is in the position of a mother."

Prioritizing one person over another in terms of seating or prayer does not mean that he is superior to the other. Superiority is based on piety, not on age or status.

If the car is owned by one of them, or if he is the one paying its rent, then he has the primary right to sit in the front.
