Is it permissible to supplicate for the return of one's divorced wife, who is married to another, by means of her divorce or khul' from him, or is it better to be patient and not supplicate, and is there a reward from Allah for abandoning the supplication?
A man's supplication for his divorced wife to return after she has married is an transgression in supplication. He should be patient, turn his heart away from her, and supplicate that Allah diverts this attachment from him and compensates him with a wife better than her. For whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better, as stated in the noble : "Indeed, you will not give up anything for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, except that Allah will replace it with something better for you than it." And Allah the Most High knows what is good for His servant, as He says: "But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
