What is the ruling on saying: "I do not want to know the ruling on something in Islam, because I do not want to be held accountable for it, given that I was ignorant of it"?

Negligence in seeking the obligatory knowledge, when it is possible to acquire it, is a sin that requires repentance. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." Abandoning knowledge under this pretext is a satanic deception. The ignorant person should ask the people of knowledge about what they do not know, as Allah Almighty says: "So ask the people of the message if you do not know," and as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Why did they not ask when they did not know? Indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking."
