Is there a blood money (Diyya) for running over a dog or a cat?

If the run-over dog was not authorized to be kept, then it has no value. However, if its keeping was authorized, such as a hunting or guard dog, there is a difference of opinion regarding the permissibility of selling it. The evidence suggests that its sale is absolutely impermissible, and that there is no compensation due from one who destroys it. As for a cat owned by another, the person who ran it over must pay its value to its owner. It should be known that it is not permissible to deliberately kill these animals, except for what the Sharia has permitted to be killed, such as an aggressive dog.
