The husband should provide an independent home for his wife. She is not obliged to serve his family, unless she does so out of kindness. No one is permitted to interfere in the couple's life except by offering advice. It is not wise for the husband to disclose details of his marital life to his family, nor for the wife to relay what the husband's mother says about her; rather, this may constitute forbidden backbiting. Similarly, for the husband's family to speak about the secrets of their son's wife may be considered backbiting. The wife is not permitted to leave her husband's house without his permission. It is not permissible to respond to ill-treatment with forbidden backbiting.
