What is the Hadith that describes a situation in which the Prophet was sitting with some men, who then delved into news of women, and the Companion wished that the Prophet would stop talking with them?
Imam Ahmad narrated a hadith from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, in which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Quraish: "You are the people entrusted with this matter, as long as you do not disobey Allah. But if you disobey Him, He will send against you someone who will strip you bare, just as this stick is stripped bare."
The narrators of this hadith are trustworthy, but it is munqati' (disconnected), because Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah did not meet Ibn Mas'ud. Therefore, Ibn Hajar, Al-Wadi'i, and Al-Arna'ut said it is weak due to its disconnection.
However, Al-Albani graded it sahih (authentic) in Sahih al-Jami' and Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Sahiha, saying that its chain of narration meets the criteria of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim). Shaykh Hussein Asad also authenticated it.
