Is it permissible to trim the beard with a trimmer to level 2 or 3 to please parents who asked for it to be trimmed, not shaved?
Obeying Allah and His Messenger takes precedence over obeying parents when there is a conflict. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the growing of beards, saying: "Leave the beards to grow," "Let the beards grow long," and "Let the beards hang down." All these phrases mean to leave the beard as it is, without alteration.
Trimming the beard in any way constitutes a clear violation of the prophetic command.
This should be explained gently to the parents. If they insist on trimming, then it is not permissible to obey them, and the son bears no sin for their displeasure in this situation.
It is incumbent upon those who are steadfast in their faith, in lands where many religious rites have vanished, to demonstrate, revive, and spread what has become obsolete.
