What is the last verse revealed from the Qur’an?

Scholars differed regarding the last verse revealed in the Quran, and there is no definitive report about this from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Among the most prominent opinions is that the last verse is the saying of Allah the Almighty: ﴿وَاتَّقُوا يَوْمًا تُرْجَعُونَ فِيهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ تُوَفَّى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ﴾ [Al-Baqarah/281], and this is what many scholars, such as Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, preferred.

It was also said: The last verse revealed was the verse of Kalalah (inheritance): ﴿يَسْتَفْتُونَكَ قُلِ اللَّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِي الْكَلالَةِ﴾. The last verse revealed was the verse of Riba (usury): ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبا﴾. The last two verses revealed from Surat At-Tawbah: ﴿لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ﴾ to the end of the surah.

Scholars pointed out that this difference might be based on the ijtihad (independent reasoning) and conjecture of the Companions, or that each Companion mentioned the last thing they heard from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, before his death, and others might have heard something revealed after that.
